UNISA is inviting applications for the position of Language Practitioners on an independent contract basis (not full-time). The roles involve editing, translating, and proofreading study material, research articles, glossaries, abstracts, and official institutional documents in South Africa’s official languages.

Language Practitioners: Afrikaans

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Grade 12 (Matric)
    • Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in:
      • Language Practice
      • Applied Language Study
      • Applied Linguistics
      • Linguistics Degree/National Diploma majoring in Translation and Language Editing (in Afrikaans and English)

Language Practitioners: English

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Grade 12 (Matric)
    • Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in:
      • Language Practice
      • Applied Language Study
      • Applied Linguistics
      • Linguistics Degree/National Diploma majoring in Language Editing (English)

Language Practitioners: Editing and Translation (for African Languages)

Languages include:

  • IsiNdebele
  • IsiXhosa
  • IsiZulu
  • Sesotho sa Leboa
  • Setswana
  • South Sotho
  • Siswati
  • Tshivenda
  • Xitsonga
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Grade 12 (Matric)
    • Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in:
      • Language Practice
      • Applied Language Study
      • Applied Linguistics
      • Linguistics Degree/National Diploma majoring in Translation and Language Editing (in the language of specialization and English)
