Key Duties of a Teaching Assistant

If appointed, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Course Familiarization: Engage with the online subject content to ensure a thorough understanding.
  2. Feedback and Reviews: Evaluate and provide feedback on online study materials and assessments.
  3. Training Participation: Attend and complete UNISA’s online training sessions to understand the pedagogical approach and the myModules platform.
  4. Support Site Engagement: Actively contribute to the TA support site and assist colleagues as needed.
  5. Mentorship: Mentor new TAs to help them meet performance expectations.
  6. Content Contribution: Develop ideas and draft assessment questions when requested.
  7. Student Support: Guide, facilitate, and support the learning journey of approximately 250 students.
  8. Discussion Facilitation: Lead and monitor subject-specific online discussions.
  9. Marking and Feedback: Grade eight online assignments and a portfolio, providing detailed feedback.
  10. Meeting Participation: Attend online marking guideline meetings via Microsoft Teams.
  11. Administrative Tasks: Fulfill administrative duties such as completing spreadsheets and generating reports.
