About SARB: The South African Reserve Bank serves the economic well-being of South Africans by maintaining price and financial stability. It regulates the South African financial sector, manages interest rates, designs and distributes banknotes and coins, sets cash reserve requirements for banks, and ensures the stability of the banking sector and the broader financial system.
Programme Description:
- Duration: One year, from February to December 2024.
- Focus: The core outcome of the program is to develop capabilities in advanced analytics in central banking, particularly in the area of data science.
- Placement: Graduates will be placed in the Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD) at the SARB.
- Learning Interventions: Graduates will participate in various learning interventions, including technical training, and work on unique and complex business problems.
Requirements: To be considered for the SARB Graduate Development Programme, candidates must have a postgraduate qualification or be in the process of completing one in the following fields:
- Data Science
- Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
- Predictive Analytics Modeling
- Statistics
- Applied Mathematics
- Economics with Econometrics (advantageous)
- Information Technology
- Engineering
- Business Mathematics and Informatics
- Coding with R and Python
Additional Requirements:
- Must be South African citizens.
- Should be curious, innovative, and self-motivated individuals with strong analytical skills.
- Must have a proven track record of academic excellence, with an overall average mark of 65% and above.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Evidence of participation in data science competitions (e.g., Kaggle) and/or contributions to projects on GitHub/Gitlab is advantageous.
