What is the Second Chance Matric Programme?
The Second Chance Matric Programme is a comprehensive initiative launched by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) in 2016 to assist learners who want to improve their matric results or complete their matric qualification on a part-time basis. Whether you failed to meet the requirements in your previous attempts or need to upgrade specific subjects, this programme offers you the chance to rewrite your exams and earn your matric qualification.

How to Apply for the Second Chance Matric Programme
The application process for the SCMP is simple. To apply, follow these steps:
- Visit Your Nearest District Office
You must go to a district office to register. Bring along the following documents:- A copy of your ID
- Your statement of results or matric certificate (if you have already completed some or all of your matric)
- School reports (if you left school before completing matric)
- Online Registration
If you prefer to apply online, visit www.eservices.gov.za and follow the registration instructions. This option is available for Senior Certificate candidates. - Visit the Department of Basic Education (DBE)
Alternatively, you can apply in person at any DBE office near you. Be sure to bring your relevant documents.
It’s important to note that attending the SCMP does not automatically register you for the exams. Once you’ve registered for the programme, you’ll need to complete a separate registration process for the exams themselves.
