SANBI Biological Invasion: Bursaries 2025

SANBI Biological Invasion invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme  2025 academic year.

Bursary Application Closing Date: 01 November 2024

Candidates can view the list of potential SANBI projects. For other research project areas, contact SANBI to verify if your proposal aligns with their mandate.

Bursary Coverage:

• Honours: 1 bursary valued at R60,000 plus fees
• Masters: 3 bursaries valued at R115,000 plus fees
• Doctoral: 4 bursaries valued at R161,000 plus fees

The bursary may cover the cost of registration for part-time studies or other project expenses if aligned with SANBI’s mandate. Funds are paid directly to the student, and academic fees are paid to the host institution.

Note: Masters and Doctoral applicants may be considered for a 1-year project development internship if likely to exceed their study period, after which they must reapply for the bursary.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a South African citizen
• Must be registered for a postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters, or Doctoral) in one of the approved research areas
• Must be studying at a recognised university in South Africa
• Enthusiastic and keen to conduct research to improve the understanding and management of biological invasions

2. Submit the following documents (compiled into 1 single PDF file, if possible, not exceeding 20MB):
   • Certified copy of your ID
   • Certified copy of your academic record
   • Certified copy of your highest qualification
   • Full Curriculum Vitae
   • 2 reference letters from academic supervisors
   • Statement of support from a prospective academic supervisor
   • Statement of support from a SANBI staff member (as a contact or co-supervisor)
   • Honours applicants: 1-page project outline
   • Masters and Doctoral applicants: 2-page project outline
