The Robben Island Museum is hiring Specialised Tour Guiding Officers for a 12-month contract to work within the Public Heritage Department.

The position involves narrating and monitoring the history of Robben Island, particularly focusing on political imprisonment, and assisting with training tour guides.
Job Details:
- Position: Specialised Tour Guiding Officer (x4)
- Salary: R267,607.28 – R374,650.19 (Job Grade 10)
- Contract: 12 months
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct prison tours for VIPs and groups, sharing personal experiences and historical accounts.
- Present the history of political imprisonment and South African history to specialized groups.
- Train and induct tour guides to improve their delivery of the political imprisonment narrative.
- Monitor and evaluate the narrative delivery of tour guides to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Participate in research and assist scholars with topics related to Robben Island’s history.
- Make presentations on the history of political imprisonment in various settings, including workshops and conferences.
- Support the museum’s Heritage Education Outreach programs, both locally and internationally.
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
- Must have experience as a former inmate of Robben Island Prison.
- Fluency in English and one other official language.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to engage with various stakeholders.
- Ability to take initiative and develop new ideas based on assessments.
- Skills in identifying issues and understanding complex narratives.
