PRASA Bursaries 2025

Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) invites South African student to apply for Bursary Programme 2025 academic year.

Bursary Application Closing Date: 15 November 2024.

Fields of Study

The PRASA Bursary is available for students pursuing undergraduate studies in:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current or Light Current)
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Quantity Surveying

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the PRASA Bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Must be studying or planning to study full-time towards a qualification in one of the listed fields.
  • Must be enrolled or accepted to study at a recognised public Higher Education Institution (HEI) in South Africa.
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% (minimum C symbol), if currently studying.
  • Must demonstrate financial need and inability to afford their studies.

Preference will be given to students who:

  • Are orphans or from child-headed households.
  • Have an excellent academic performance.

How to Apply:

  1. Download and complete the PRASA Bursary Application Form 2025 (.pdf).
  2. Submit your application along with the following supporting documents (all documents must be clear and certified):
    • ID document (certified copy)
    • Matric certificate (certified copy)
    • Previous year’s academic results, if currently enrolled
    • Final examination results and an academic record, if already studying
    • Proof of tertiary acceptance into the relevant field of study
    • Proof of residence
    • Proof of parents’ or guardians’ total household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of pension/social grant)
    • List of costs for registration, tuition, and examination fees
    • A motivational letter explaining your reason for enrolling in the intended qualification, signed by you and your school principal, lecturer, or a community/religious/cultural leader (see tips on writing a motivational letter for bursary applications)
    • A testimonial/recommendation letter from a principal, lecturer, or community/religious/cultural leader confirming your aptitude, work ethic, and personal conduct (see tips on getting a reference/testimonial)
