Exciting Internship Opportunity Funded by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA)

Petroleum Agency SA, a subsidiary of CEF SOC Limited, is offering an exceptional two-year internship programme for three (3) graduates, commencing in February 2025. This opportunity is funded by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA), aimed at providing practical experience and professional growth in key disciplines within the petroleum sector.

Key MQA Funding Criteria:

  • Applicants must be unemployed South African citizens.
  • Graduates must have achieved their qualifications at the Higher Education and Training (HET) level.
  • Candidates should not have previously benefitted from any MQA or company-funded internship programme.
  • No prior work experience is required.

Available Internship Positions:

1. Intern: Technical Compliance (Engineering)

Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering.

Internship Focus:

  • Gain hands-on experience in petroleum engineering, specifically drilling operations, well design, and production processes.
  • Learn key aspects of well performance assessment, well completion systems, and production metering.
  • Opportunity to visit active drilling and production facilities for practical exposure.
  • Contribute to evaluating and processing applications for rights and permits as per the Mineral Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), 2002.
  • Participate in the preparation of documents for notarial executions of rights/permits.
  • Assist in drafting recommendations for rights and permits for Ministerial consideration.

2. Intern: Licensing and Legal

Minimum Qualification:
LLB Degree

Internship Focus:

  • Exposure to legal processes related to petroleum industry rights and permits.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and publishing legal notices.
  • Gain experience in legal research and providing inputs for government policies and legislative frameworks.
  • Develop legal skills in the preparation of regulatory and compliance documents.

3. Intern: Company Secretary

Minimum Qualification:
LLB or BCom (CGISA qualification is an added advantage).

Internship Focus:

  • Assist in the management of corporate governance, company secretariat, and compliance-related tasks.
  • Gain experience in writing meeting minutes and maintaining official records.
  • Work on ensuring proper declarations of interest and gifts for audit purposes.
  • Assist in preparing the Agency’s annual calendar and compliance reports.
  • Participate in governance audits and ensure corporate compliance with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC).
