What is Actuarial Science and What does an Actuary actually do?
An actuary is a financial problem solver and their work allows companies and individuals to safeguard their financial future.
Typical areas of work include:
- Designing insurance and investment products
- Consulting to pension funds to provide investment advice and forecast possible investment return
- Calculate companies’ profit and loss
- Project future profits and monitoring companies’ performances.
What do I need to qualify?
- An A in Mathematics (not Maths literacy) and Bs for all your other subjects
- Must study at either the University of Cape Town, the University of Stellenbosch, the University of the Witwatersrand or the University of Pretoria
