The Master Builders Association Western Cape (MBAWC) is offering a bursary for students in the Built Environment sector for the 2025 academic year.

The bursary is aimed at providing financial assistance to eligible students pursuing tertiary studies in various built environment-related fields.
About the MBAWC
Founded in 1891, MBAWC is the oldest organization of its kind in South Africa, and it focuses on maintaining the reputation of the building industry and attracting investment into the sector. Its membership comprises companies involved in building products, subcontractors, merchants, and manufacturers.
Fields of Study Covered
The MBAWC bursary is available for both University Degree and University of Technology National Diploma studies within the Built Environment sector, specifically for the following qualifications:
University Degree Studies:
- Civil Engineering (BSc)
- Construction Studies (BSc)
- Construction Management (BSc Hons)
- Quantity Surveying (BSc Hons)
- Project Management (MSc)
- Masters Studies (subject to motivated application)
- Other Built Environment-related fields
University of Technology National Diploma (Non-NSFAS focus) Studies:
- Construction (Extended) (Diploma)
- Construction (Diploma)
- Construction (Advanced Diploma)
- Construction Health & Safety (Advanced Diploma)
- Quantity Surveying (Advanced Diploma)
- Master of Construction
- Other Built Environment-related fields
Bursary Coverage
- The bursary will cover tuition fees for one academic year.
- It will be paid in two installments: the first after funding approval, and the second subject to a mid-year performance review.
- The bursary is renewable based on satisfactory academic progress.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have completed Matric at a school within the Western Cape.
- Be studying or planning to study in one of the listed Built Environment qualifications in 2025.
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll at a recognised tertiary institution in the Western Cape.
- Not qualify for NSFAS funding (household income between R350,000 and R600,000 per year).
- Not qualify for other bursary support or funding from SETA/CETA.
- Preference will be given to employees of MBAWC member companies or their family members, and to those employed by a compliant member company for at least 24 months.

- Certified copy of your ID document.
- Certified copy of your most recent academic record.
- Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution.
- Motivational letter (detailing why you deserve the bursary).
- Proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of grant/pension).
- Curriculum Vitae.
