Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Grade 12 with Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy).
- Residency: Must reside in Pinetown or surrounding areas.
- Employment Status: Must be currently unemployed.
You must have passed the following subjects at NQF Level 4:
- Mathematics / Technical Mathematics (Not Mathematics Literacy).
- Physical Science / Technical Science.
- N3 Diesel Trade Theory and/or N3 Mechanotechnology.
- Engineering Graphic and Design.
Job Specification
During the 4-year apprenticeship, you will be expected to:
- Learn and observe: Gain a wide range of technical skills and processes under the instruction of experienced staff.
- Demonstrate skills: Apply what you’ve learned by working independently or as part of a team, taking on more responsibilities as your skills develop.
- Complete apprentice modules: Successfully complete the prescribed modules from merSETA throughout your training period, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
- Health and safety: Understand the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
- Workshop maintenance: Learn to maintain and repair workshop equipment.
- Logbook maintenance: Keep a record of the projects you’ve worked on and the skills you’ve acquired over the course of the apprenticeship.
- Workplace housekeeping: Ensure the workspace is kept tidy and professional.
- Professional conduct: Maintain a smart appearance and always act in a professional manner.
- Additional duties: Carry out any other tasks assigned that are appropriate to your role.
