GIZ South Africa invites South African graduates to apply for the Gender Mainstreaming Support Internship Programme 2025.

Internship Overview:
The South African-German Energy Programme (SAGEN-CET), implemented by GIZ and funded by the German government, is offering a 6-month Graduate Internship for an Intern – Gender Mainstreaming Support. The programme seeks passionate graduates to contribute to gender-responsive action, stakeholder engagement, and communication initiatives in the energy sector. The role offers hands-on experience in driving gender equality within the context of South Africa’s energy transition.
Minimum Requirements:
- Completed undergraduate degree in:
- Gender Studies
- Social Sciences
- Environmental Studies
- Energy Policy
- Development Studies
- Or a related field relevant to energy and social justice
- South African citizen or valid Permanent Residency holder
- Must not have participated in a previous internship programme
- Strong interest or experience in gender mainstreaming, women’s empowerment, and diversity
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work well in a multicultural team environment
Responsibilities:
- Support cross-functional teams on gender-focused energy activities
- Assist with stakeholder engagement and gender-responsive policy implementation
- Contribute to design of gender equality initiatives
- Assist with logistics, communications, and knowledge management
- Help organize and coordinate workshops, events, and training sessions
- Contribute to M&E reporting and track progress of project activities
- Conduct research on trends and policies related to gender and energy
Internship Stipend: R148,800 per annum (R12,400/month)
