It’s that time of year again for parents in Gauteng to prepare for the upcoming school admissions season. The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has just announced the critical dates for online admissions applications for Grades 1 and 8 in 2025. Here’s all you need to know to navigate this process smoothly and secure your child’s place in a school of your choice.

Set your alarms! Online admissions will open on Thursday, 11 July 2024, at 8 AM, and will close on 12 August 2024 at midnight. This gives you a 32-day window to complete your applications and ensure your child’s spot in a preferred school.
Despite the delayed announcement, Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, assured parents that placements will commence promptly from 16 September 2024 for those who submit their applications on time.
How to Apply
Applying for school admissions in Gauteng is a straightforward process through the GDE admissions website:
- Register: Start by registering on the GDE admissions website (https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za) providing essential details about yourself as the parent or guardian.
- Provide Information: Enter necessary details about your child, including their residential address.
- Choose Schools: Select the school(s) where you want to apply. Remember, each child is allowed only one application to avoid confusion.
- Upload Documents: During the application period, upload required documents such as parent’s ID, child’s birth certificate, proof of work and home addresses, latest Grade 7 school report (Grade 8 applications), immunisation records, and other specified documents.
- Late Applications: If you miss the initial deadline, you can still apply during the late application period. However, documents will need to be submitted directly to the school.
