The FirstRand Foundation Trust is inviting students to apply for the Bursary Programme 2023.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards critical skills programmes, specifically for Undergraduate Degree studies in the following fields:
Commerce:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Financial Management
- Law
- Risk
Engineering:
- All specialisations/ disciplines
Science:
- Actuarial Science
- Agricultural Science
- Bioscience
- Climate Science
- Data Science
- Electronics
- Environmental Science
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems
- Mathematical Science
- Physics
- Renewable Energy
- Society and Sustainability
- Statistics
Technology:
- Business Information Systems
- Computer Science
- Information Management
- Information Systems
- Information Science
- Information Technology
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, learning resources, computer (for 1st year students), accommodation, meals and a monthly stipend.
The Trust will keep in contact with bursary recipients, and may also offer the following opportunities:
- Vacation Work
- Hackathon
- Mentoring
- Think Tank
- Invitation to FirstRand Offices
- Students’ transportation to and from campus to provincial headquarters
- Interaction with FirstRand personnel at the university campus
- Driver’s License
Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be Black (African, Coloured, Indian, Asian)
- You must NOT be older than 21 years in your first year of study
- You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric within the last 3 years (applicants who completed Matric more than 3 years ago may NOT apply)
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 5 for Mathematics in Matric
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must intend on studying full time towards an undergraduate degree, in one of the commerce, engineering, science or technology fields listed above (postgraduate qualifications (PGD or Honours degree) may be funded in exceptional cases where the postgraduate qualification will give access to employment opportunities)
- You must have applied for and been provisionally admitted to study at a public university in South Africa, in 2023
- You must belong to the “missing middle” group, with a combined gross family income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum

- Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)

- Proof of provisionally acceptance at university (on institutions letterhead)
- Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of pension or grants if applicable) (certified copy)
- Signed StudyTrsut consent form
