FEM Bursaries 2025

FEM invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2025 academic year.

The FEM (Federated Employers Mutual) Bursary is designed to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are unable to fund their own studies. The bursary specifically targets students in the fields of Engineering, Built Environment, and Health Sciences, as these fields align with FEM’s objectives to contribute to their sector.

Fields of Study

Bursaries are available for undergraduate students pursuing qualifications in:

  • Engineering
  • Built Environment
  • Health Sciences

Expenses Covered

The FEM Bursary covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks
  • Monthly stipend
  • Potential accommodation and meals (at FEM’s discretion)

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the FEM Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
  • Enrollment: Studying full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in Engineering, Built Environment, or Health Sciences.
  • Academic Progress: Must have completed the first year of study (not available to first-year or postgraduate students).
  • Institution: Enrolled at an approved public university in South Africa.
  • Household Income: Total household income must not exceed R380,000 per year.
  • Academic Record: Must have a strong academic performance.
  • Financial Standing: Must be in good financial standing with the university, without any outstanding fees.
  • Background: Must be from a disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.

How to Apply

Applications must be completed online at the FEM Bursary Application 2025 portal.

Required Supporting Documents

Submit clear, certified copies of the following documents (no older than 3 months):

  • South African ID document
  • Most recent academic record
  • ID documents of parents or guardians
  • Proof of parents or guardians’ income (latest payslips, bank statements, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grants if applicable, death or divorce certificates as needed)
  • Proof of registration for any other student dependents in the household

Important: Failure to provide all required documents may result in disqualification. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete an additional application form.
