Eastern Cape Dept of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) invites students to apply for Amathuba Youth Empowerment / Learnership Programme 2021.

1. Accelerated Professional and Trade Competency Development Programme (APTCoD)
The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure(DPWI)invites unemployed youth to register on the Amathuba Job Portal, build a CVand apply for placement in the Accelerated Professional and Trade Competency Development Programme (APTCoD). The APTCoD programme is a flagship initiative of the Department which aims to accelerate the developmentof quality technical skills in the Eastern Cape Province with specific focus on construction and related disciplines and to provide learners with quality workplace experience under the guidance of experienced mentors. towards their trade tests.
The duration of the programme is 3 years and successful learners who pass the Trade test will obtain a Trade Certificate.The stipend for this programme is R3000.00 per month. The number of opportunities for the 2020/21 financial year is 329 Provincially.
1.1 REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTION: APTCoD
- Minimum qualification -N2 or NCV level 3 for Plumbing, Bricklaying, Carpentry, and Welding Trades.
- Minimum qualification of N3 -Electrical and Mechanical Trades.
- Minimum of Grade 9 -Painting Trade.
2. National Youth Service (NYS)
The department is also inviting young people to register onthe Amathuba Job Portal, build a CV and apply for placement in the National Youth Service (NYS) programme. Through the NYS programme DPWI will create work and training opportunities for the unemployed youth while at the same time addressing the shortage of artisan skills in the construction industry. Successful applicants will be exposed to community service delivery initiatives and thereby instilling the spirit of patriotism. Furthermore, the Department will ensure that participating youth develop skills, understanding and aspirations for working in the built environment.
The duration of the programme is 18 months.The number of opportunities for the 2020/21 financial year is 52 Provincially.

- Minimum qualification -Grade 10
The target for both programmes is unemployed youth of the Eastern Cape (i.e.between the ages 18-35). The department will be paying monthly stipend to selected learners. Preference will be given to people from the Eastern Cape Province, women and people with disabilities. The stipend for this programme is R2400.00 per month.
