Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2025.
Bursary Application Closing date is 31 January 2025.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) Bursary Programme offers financial assistance for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in heritage-related fields. Below are the key details of the bursary:
Fields of Study Covered:
- Anthropology, with preference for Postgraduates specializing in Forensics
- Archaeology, with preference for Postgraduates specializing in Bioarchaeology
- Geography and Geomatic Sciences, with preference for Postgraduates specializing in Cartography and GIS
- Archives and Records Management
- Library and Information Sciences
- Conservation of the built environment, including preventive conservation (not specific courses or subjects)
- Heritage and Museum Studies
- Palaeontology
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), and courses related to the preservation and promotion of South African Living Heritage
- History
- Digitisation of heritage resources
Bursary Coverage:
The bursary covers the following expenses:
- Full tuition fees
- Prescribed books
- Electronic devices (up to R10,000)
- Accommodation (up to R50,000)
- Meals (up to R18,500)
- Transport (up to R10,000)
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be 40 years old or younger
- Be currently in Matric (2024) or have completed Matric
- Be studying, or accepted to study, in an accredited institution for one of the specified heritage-related programmes
- Have a strong academic record
- Not be employed in the private sector, government, or state agencies with a salary over R130,000
- Not be receiving any other bursary funding

- Certified copy of your ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate or latest results
- Certified copy of your current academic record (if applicable)
- Proof of provisional acceptance at a university
- For Postgraduates: a progress report from your supervisor (if applicable)

- 31 January 2025
Additional Information:
- Successful applicants will be contacted by 31 March 2025. If you don’t hear from the department by this date, consider your application unsuccessful.
