Compensation Fund: Bursaries 2021
Compensation Fund invites students to apply for Bursary Programme 2021.
Bursary Application closing date is 31 October 2020
The Compensation Fund will be awarding 3 types of bursaries:
1) Vocational Rehabilitation Bursary:
For Unemployed Compensation Fund pensioners who can no longer as a result of occupational injuries or diseases, and have a permanent disablement. Unemployed people with physical disabilities may also apply.
The bursary aims to improve these workers skills and knowledge so they can return to work or become self-employed. Covers ANY field of study, but critical skill studies are encouraged (including Early Childhood Development; Engineering; Information Communications Technology; Agriculture and Farming; Graphic Design and Artisan development programmes).
2) Dependents of Compensation Fund Bursary:
Dependents of Compensation Fund pensioners, between 17 and 25 years old, whose parents or guardians suffered occupational injuries or disease. Studies are for the following fields:
- Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Design and Development Engineering, Production and Process Engineering)
- Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Production Management, Supply Chain Management
- Aviation, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Control
- Marine Studies, Maritime Studies
- Geo- Informatics, Geophysics, Geology, Geo Informatics
- Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology
- Science (Actuarial Science, Data Science, Mathematical Science, Statistics)
- Food and Beverage, Hospitality, Culinary
- Water Science and Technology
- Clinical Psychology, Industrial Psychology
- Quality control and planning, Quality Assurance and regulatory, Environmental Health
- Health and related clinical science (MBCHB, Urology, Oncology, Dentist, Pharmacist, Radiography, Nursing, Advanced Paramedic ,Audiologists, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics, Vascular technology)
- Agriculture
- Architectures, Town Planning, Construction Management, Quantity Surveyor
- Accounting Science, Honours BCom Accounting, CTA
- Economic Science
- Risk Management, Risk Management and Forensic Science
- Teaching (Mathematics, Science, Information Communications Technology and Early Childhood Development)
- Information Technology, Informatics, Computer Science, System Development (Specialising in artificial intelligence/ machine learning/ data science & analytics/ data engineering/ Cyber security/ Cloud Computing/ Internet of Things (IoT)/ Quantum Computing/ robotics/ Software engineering/ Computer networks)
- Graphic (Communication) Design
3) Young student Bursary:
For students between 17 and 25 years old. Studies are for the following fields:
- Actuarial Science, Financial Mathematics
- Data Science, Mathematical Science, Statistics
- Risk Management, Forensic Science
- Accounting Science, BCom (honours) in Accounting, CTA
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Informatics, Information Technology (Specialising in artificial intelligence/ machine learning/ data science & analytics/ data engineering/ Cyber security/ Cloud Computing/ Internet of Things (IoT)/ Quantum Computing/ robotics/ Software engineering/ Computer networks)
- Health and related clinical science (MBCHB, Urology, Oncology, Dentist, Pharmacist, Radiography, Nursing, Medical Science, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics)
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed study materials, accommodation and a monthly allowance.
Bursaries are renewable each year dependent on students academic performance and availability of funds.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted – if you do not receive any feedback within 2 months of the closing date, please regard your application was unsuccessful.
Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1. Vocational Rehabilitation Bursary:
- South African citizen
- Unemployed Compensation Fund pensioner (previous-worker) who suffered occupational injuries or diseases and therefore acquired a permanent disability
- OR other unemployed person with physical disabilities
- Want to improve your skills to return to working or become self-employed
- Accepted to study full-time at one of the following recognised institutes: Public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges/ Community Education and Training (CET) Colleges/ Higher Education Institution (HEI)
- Combined household income is NO more than R600 000 per year
2. Dependents of Compensation Fund Bursary:
- South African citizen
- Dependents of Compensation Fund pensioner
- Between 17 and 25 years old
- Accepted to study full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Accepted to study at one of the following recognised institutes: Public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges/ Higher Education Institution (HEI)
- Combined household income is NO more than R600 000 per year
- Tuition fees quote and Prescribed Learning Resources quote
3. Young student Bursary:
- South African citizen
- Between 17 and 25 years old
- Accepted to study full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Entering your 1st year of studies in 2021
- Accepted to study at a Higher Education Institution (HEI)
- Combined household income is NO more than R600 000 per year
- Tuition fees quote and Prescribed Learning Resources quote

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
1. Vocational Rehabilitation Bursary:
- ID document/ birth certificate (certified copy)
- Compensation Fund pension number
- Proof of residence
- Matric results/ highest school qualification
- Proof of acceptance from public Post School Education and Training (PSET)
- Proof of income or proof of unemployment from Department of Employment and Labour/ Affidavit
- Proof of physical disability by a Health Care Professional or Disability Support Office (for other unemployed person with physical disabilities)
2. Dependents of Compensation Fund Bursary:
- ID document/ birth certificate (certified copy)
- Compensation Fund pension number
- Proof of residence

- Matric results/ highest school qualification
