City of Johannesburg Building Development Management Internships 2026

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) invites qualifying students and graduates residing within the Johannesburg community to apply for the Building Development Management Student Internship Programme 2026 in the Development Planning Department.

Internship Duration: Up to 18 months

About the City of Johannesburg Student Internship Programme

The City of Johannesburg Student Internship Programme is aimed at providing students with practical workplace exposure required by tertiary institutions or experiential training after completion of an academic qualification.

The internship is open to qualifying youth from Johannesburg communities who have not previously participated in an internship programme.

The opportunity is available for a period not exceeding 18 months.

Internship Stipend / Salary

The remuneration differs according to the applicantโ€™s study status.

Applicants who have completed a qualification with a minimum of 360 credits will receive:

R10 109.86 per month

Applicants who are currently enrolled as students will receive:

R4 951.88 per month

Both amounts are basic salary with no additional benefits.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4.
  • A relevant NQF Level 6 qualification.
  • A Diploma or National Diploma in:
    • Archives Management
    • Records Management
    • Archives and Records Management
  • No previous work experience is required.
  • Applicants must be residents of the City of Johannesburg.

Only City of Johannesburg residents will be considered.

Primary Function

The successful intern will assist the Records and Archives section within Building Development Management.

The role is intended to support the organisation and management of records and archives to ensure that building-plan applications can be filed and retrieved efficiently.

  • Filing building-plan applications.
  • Maintaining building-plan records.
  • Accessing building-plan application records.
  • Managing associated correspondence.
  • Supporting the Operations Manager.
  • Assisting with administrative and ad-hoc duties.
