The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) invites South African unemployed graduates to apply for the Internship Programme 2023 / 2024.

Internship Application Closing Date: 29 August 2023

Internship Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is offering Internship opportunities to suitably qualified and unemployed graduates. The Interships will run for a a period NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months. 

Interns will be required to sign an internship agreement, in additional to an employment contract, committing themselves to full participation in the educational and workplace assignments in accordance with laid-down policies and procedures.

The following Internship Opportunities are open for applications:

Administration & Logistics Interns

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in: Public Administration / Business Administration / Public Management / Administration Management

Duties: Coordinate activities and requirements associated with Management and the application of administrative and secretarial procedures, communication, planning, and prioritization of confidential and important appointments, events/functions, and meetings. Ensure effective functional execution of duties to guarantee customer satisfaction and services at meetings, workshops, and functions. Responsible for frontline communication and user-friendly service for all clients.

NB. students who hold an N6 in (Business Management/Public Management ) must  have a Confirmation Letter from the institution


Fleet Inspector Interns

Requirements: National Diploma / N6 in: Motor Mechanical Engineering (If you hold an N6 a Confirmation letter from Institution will be required)

Duties: Conduct fleet assets verification and vehicle inspection for Core Departments. Manage and execute Maintenance Rebill Authorization (MRAs). Facilitate drive assessments and training. Manage fleeting of Full Maintenance Leave (FMLs) vehicles and the disposal of City Owned Fleet (COF). Facilitate cases of irregular fueling reported by the Supplier. Equipment Original Manufacture (EOM) site visits


Group Governance Finance Interns

Requirements: Degree in Commerce;

Duties: Coordinate specific logistical, and procedural requirements associated with Finance and Management Support Department. Provide administrative and finance support to various Group Sub Sections Sittings within the City of Johannesburg by Group Governance. Perform administrative/secretarial activities associated with the preparation of documents and correspondence for circulation.


Environmental Health Interns

Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent. Registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa;

Duties: Assist the EHP to carry out measures for protecting public health, including administering and enforcing legislation related to environmental health and providing support to minimize health and safety hazards. Ensure that the staff at Environmental Health Unit can interpret requirements and apply administrative procedures and guidelines to improve efficiency. Control the administrative requirements associated with Environmental Health Activities. Provide general office clerical work requiring some independent judgment. Monitor the consolation, processing, and representation of functional information.


Health Department – Finance Interns

Requirements: Diploma or Degree in: Financial Accounting / Accounting / Supply Chain / Public Finance Management.

Duties: Perform general administrative functions. Ensure that procurement is allocated to the correct account number in line with the Standard Chart of Accounts by checking the allocation of all submissions. Perform specific activities associated with providing support to the Sub-Unit. Ensure proper filing, safekeeping and archiving of records.


Administration Interns

Requirements: National Diploma or Degree in: Business Administration / Public Administration / Administration

Duties: Control the administration / reception function for OHASA. Administration and logistics. Communication. General office administration

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to function in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with the group.
  • Coordination and problem-solving skills and Batho Pele Principles.
  • Computer literacy and Office application;
  • Communication and organizational skills,
  • Ability to handle confidential information,
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work
