What You Will Learn and Do

As an Apprentice Instrument Mechanician, you will:

  • Acquire trade-specific knowledge and skills
  • Participate in a formal training plan and assessments
  • Maintain and repair instrumentation and plant equipment under supervision
  • Work with SCADA and DCS systems
  • Conduct testing, commissioning, and installations
  • Learn industrial cable reticulation and circuit installations
  • Use power and hand tools efficiently
  • Follow safety, health, and environmental protocols
  • Keep and present a training logbook as required

This role provides valuable experience in a chemical plant environment, with structured guidance from experienced artisans and technicians.


Minimum Requirements

To apply for the AECI Instrument Mechanician Apprenticeship, you must have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science
  • N3 qualification (compulsory for Trade Test registration)
  • A valid driver’s license is beneficial
  • Basic understanding of process plant operations and maintenance
  • Ability to obtain a health clearance for working in a chemical environment
