Godisang Thabazimbi Community Development Trust Bursaries for 2016

The Godisang Thabazimbi Community Development Trust (GT-cdt) invites all learners and students who are South Africans and residents of Thabazimbi Local Municipality, and desire to study on full-time basis at a Higher Education Institution in South Africa to apply for bursaries available in the 2016 academic year as part of the Trust’s bursary project. These bursaries will be awarded to qualifying learners, currently in Grade 12 and those who have already passed Grade 12 in previous years or students who are already at tertiary institutions.

The GT-cdt was established in 2015 to serve the needs of the community of the Thabazimbi local municipality. The Trust is a beneficiary of the Sishen Iron Ore Company Community Development Trust (SIOC-cdt) and receives an annual 15% allocation from the Trust to benefit its communities.

To date SIOC-cdt has spent over R 56 million in public benefit community projects in the Thabazimbi local municipality of which 69% went towards education and skills development. The aim of this Bursary Project is to contribute to the overall development and upliftment of the Thabazimbi community through the acquisition of higher level education outcomes as well as the development of higher level skills amongst community members.

DISCIPLINES SUPPORTED

Students who wish to enrol for higher education studies in the following disciplines offered at a Higher Education Institution in South Africa that is accredited with the Council on Higher Education will be considered:

  • Engineering
  • Commerce
  • Education
  • Health Sciences
  • Law
  • Humanities
  • Agriculture

* Historically advantaged and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

ELIGIBILITY OF QUALIFYING BURSARS

Not all learners meeting the specified qualifying criteria shall necessarily be interviewed or awarded a bursary. In the event of more qualifying learners being available than funds allow, exceptional criteria such as financial need, race, gender, disability and locality shall be applied in an effort to narrow down the number of eligible bursars.
