University of Cape Town (UCT) is South Africa’s oldest university, founded in 1829, UCT has one of the most picturesque campuses in the world, situated on the slopes of Table Mountain’s Devil’s Peak and overlooking Rondebosch in Cape Town. The university is regarded as the top research institution on the continent, with more “A” rated researchers than any other South African university. It is the highest ranked African university in both the QS World and the Times Higher Education world university rankings. The university is home to Groote Schuur Hospital, where the world’s first heart transplant took place in 1967, and lists five Nobel Laureates among its alumni.

The application procedure

The following recommendations are for the benefit of applicants.

When to apply

Applications should be submitted as early as possible in the applications cycle, which commences in April of each year.

Application Fees

An application fee is payable with every application, except in the case of most graduates of UCT. Please refer to Fee structure for further information.

Submitting results and documents

Current learners at school should ensure that all examination results from Grade 11 until September of grade 12 are submitted. Failure to submit these results may result in delays.

Transferring students should ensure that all transcripts and academic records are submitted as early as possible, and that a final transcript of current studies being undertaken reaches the Admissions Office as soon as possible after receipt.

You may apply online. In order to apply online you will need a working email address and your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number.

If you are unable to apply online, you may submit a paper application by printing the forms from the links below, and sending them to the Admissions office at the address indicated on the right.

Undergraduate Application Forms (2016)

• Application for Undergraduate Admission in 2016. Please refer to the 2016 Directions for Undergraduate Applicants for information and code tables needed to complete this form.

• Undergraduate Funding Application Form – All applicants for need-based financial aid must complete this form, and submit it, along with all supporting documents, no later than 31 October 2014.
• Personal Report Form – All school-leaving MBChB applicants (and those who are on a gap year)are invited to complete this form. Completion of the form is not compulsory, but may be used to support the application.
• Curriculum vitae template – All MBChB applicants who have already done tertiary studies are invited to complete this form. Completion of the form is not compulsory, but may be used to support the application.
• Bachelor of Architectural Studies Form – This form must be completed by all Bachelor of Architectural Studies applicants.
• Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Form – This form must be completed by all Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) applicants.
• Semester Study Abroad – go to the UCT Online Applications website and follow the application instructions. Kindly note there are no paper-based application forms for the Semester Study Abroad programme.
