University of South Africa (Unisa) invites South African qualifying students to apply for Bursary Programme 2024 academic year.

UNISA offers various bursaries for Postgraduate Diplomas, Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral studies, covering tuition fees and research essentials. Here are the crucial details about eligibility and application:
Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Diploma and Honours Bursary:
- South African citizenship.
- Completion of an undergraduate NQF level 7 qualification at UNISA by 31 January 2024.
- Temporarily registered for registration activation upon successful application.
- Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in the undergraduate qualification.
- Not a Graduate School of Business Leadership student, nor enrolled in certain special study programs.
- No previous postgraduate degree at the same or higher NQF level.
- Not a permanent staff member at UNISA.
Eligibility Criteria for Master’s and Doctoral Bursary:
- South African citizenship preferred for 80/20 ratio.
- Temporarily registered for registration activation upon successful application.
- Completion of specific coursework or research modules by 31 January 2024.
- Not a 1st year Master’s or Doctoral student.
- Not enrolled in MBA or other specific programs.
- Not participating in certain special study programs.
- No previous postgraduate degree at the same or higher NQF level.
- Not a permanent staff member at UNISA.

NOTES ABOUT THE UNISA BURSARIES
Postgraduate Diploma and Honours bursary notes:
- Applicants should read the UNISA Postgraduate Diploma and Honours Bursary Guidelines, T&C’s (.pdf) before applying.
- The bursary will NOT provide cover for any failed modules from your Postgraduate Diploma or Honours degree.
- Bursaries will be awarded subject to the availability of funds, and will be awarded to students from highest to the lowest performing.
- Bursaries will be awarded for 2 consecutive years of study only – recipients must reapply for the second year of funding, which will be granted based on the student maintaining a minimum average of 60%.
- Appeals can be submitted, along with your motivation, between 1 and 7 April 2024 – appeals must be submitted via email to the Postgraduate Bursaries Administration at: CGS-pgb@unisa.ac.za.
- Appeals will NOT be considered if there is insufficient funds available or the applicant has been a bursary beneficiary for the full years of the bursary.
- The bursary award will be cancelled if the recipient does not abide by the bursary conditions or terminates their studies.
Master’s and Doctoral bursary notes:
- Applicants should read the UNISA Master’s and Doctoral Bursary Guidelines, T&C’s (.pdf) before applying.
- The bursary will be awarded subject to submission of a satisfactory academic progress report from your supervisor(s) (Section C of the application form).
- Bursaries will be awarded for the first 2, 3 or 4 consecutive years of study – recipients must reapply for funding each year, which will be granted based on the student maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
- Bursaries will be awarded subject to the availability of funds.
- Appeals can be submitted, along with your motivation and supported or signed by the supervisor, between 1 and 7 May 2024 – appeals must be submitted via email to the Postgraduate Bursaries Administration at: CGS-pgb@unisa.ac.za.
- Appeals will NOT be considered if there is insufficient funds available or the applicant has been a bursary beneficiary for the full years of the bursary.
- The bursary award will be cancelled if the recipient does not abide by the bursary conditions or terminates their studies.
Closing Date for Applications:
- 13 January 2024 (Applications received after this date won’t be accepted).
