The Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal Divisions of the High Court invite South African law graduates to apply for Legal Research Internship Opportunities 2025.

Internship Location: Johannesburg High Court, Pretoria High Court, Durban High Court, Pietermaritzburg High Court – Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
About the Programme:
The Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal Divisions of the High Court, in collaboration with the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit (DGRU) at the University of Cape Town (UCT), offer a 10-month Legal Research Internship Programme for young graduates.
Successful applicants will:
- Be employed by UCT on a fixed-term contract
- Be seconded to work in person at one of the High Courts listed
- Receive a monthly stipend of R9 000
Positions Available:
- 10 interns in Gauteng
- 5 interns in KwaZulu-Natal
Minimum Requirements:
- LLB degree or a four-year recognised legal qualification accredited by SAQA
- Knowledge of electronic legal research databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Jutastat, Sabinet)
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent legal research, report writing, and editing skills
- Strong communication (written and verbal)
- Analytical and creative thinking
- Good time management and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to work under pressure and in a team
Key Duties:
- Conduct legal research and prepare memorandums for Judges
- Retrieve and analyse legal materials
- Assist in drafting legal articles, speeches, and conference papers
- Attend court proceedings when required
- Manage tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines
